Jerold (aka Jerry) Bishop is a career geotechnical (read ‘dirt’) engineer, mainly designing plant sites, foundations and deep excavations. He was born and educated in the mountain west.

Jerold Bishop

Since then, his career has led him around North America, working for different companies (including his own). He is still a full-time professional… while writing on the side for many years… and is very reluctant to give it up.

As he says, “You can learn a lot about life and people doing this.”

Family is king, even when it’s just him and his daughter. Besides working to stay alive, he regularly bakes his own sourdough bread entirely from scratch. Using fresh-ground wheat flour and the best sourdough cultures he can find.

No stranger to a bit of adventure on the side, he was an alpine climber for several years, reaching his personal high watermark at just under 20,000 feet in the Peruvian Andes. He earned money on the side while at the university, serving in National Guard units, including artillery, engineers, and Special Forces. While living and working in the Kansas City area, he joined a group of volunteers who work as severe storm (tornado) spotters.

After everything is added up, he finds it hard to believe we are alone in this universe. “I grew up in a strong, faith-based home. Now, seeing the world around me makes it even more difficult to ignore the reality of God.” Faith and convictions grew into his life through service and experience. These are also rooted in the strong pioneer heritage of his family. People who gave up everything for their beliefs.

All of these elements and more find their way into his stories. So that… from his viewpoint… there’s never been a better time to be a reader...or a writer.

"A Good Way To Start The Holidays

Lots of us have blended families and no, it doesn't get easier during the holidays. This could almost carry the weight of a parable, something like "The Parable of the Dad and his Real Daughter". At any rate, it is a story that many families, blended or otherwise can easily relate to. It has a good pace, a feeling for the emotions- and emotional growth-of both characters, and a strong ending. And I like that its short-after all, this is the most busy time of the year. I would give it a good rating for all those reasons, but the clincher is that it left me feeling satisfied. Can't beat that."
